    Contract Data Engineer & Analyst - £400/pd

    Please note - this role will require you to be based in the North East and able to attend the Newcastle office 2-3 days per week. This organisation is not able to offer sponsorship.

    We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer / Data Analyst contractor to provide hybrid support across data engineering and analysis during a team refresh. This engagement is initially for 3 months, with a strong focus on maintaining business‑as‑usual reporting and delivering a key migration from Excel to SQL / Power BI.

    This role requires a self‑sufficient, trusted contractor who can quickly understand an existing data estate, work confidently with limited documentation, and make sound recommendations when improving or stabilising solutions.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Maintain and support existing data pipelines to ensure BAU continuity
    * Convert a critical Excel‑based report/dashboard into a robust SQL and Power BI solution
    * Deliver ad‑hoc, priority reporting requests as needed
    * Work independently to analyse data structures and logic where documentation is limited
    * Provide a clear handover to the incoming Data & Insights Manager at the end of the contract

    Required experience:

    * Proven experience across data engineering and analytical reporting in live environments
    * Strong capability working autonomously with minimal oversight or documentation
    * Confidence in making recommendations and proposing practical improvements
    * Experience supporting BAU reporting alongside project work
    * Strong communication skills, particularly around handover and knowledge transfer
