Job Title: Controller
Salary: $110,000-$140,000
Location: On-Site South Bend, Indiana
Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing accounting activities related to the maintenance of an accurate general ledger, managerial reports, and financial statements. This role ensures compliance with internal and external reporting requirements and provides timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analysis for company executives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Financial Reporting:
* Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
* Ensure timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analysis for executives.
* Team Management:
* Lead and manage the accounting team, including clerks, staff accountants, and senior accountants.
* Provide training, coaching, and development to team members.
* General Ledger & Reconciliations:
* Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations during monthly financial statement close.
* Maintain and update the general ledger, including month-end closing procedures.
* Tax Compliance:
* Ensure timely tax payments and compliance with local, state, and federal tax reporting requirements, including multi-state compliance.
* Accounting Procedures & Inventory Control:
* Oversee basic accounting procedures (A/R, A/P, billing, G/L, tax forms, inventory control).
* Prepare supporting schedules for financial statement preparation, including margin analysis, fixed assets, and inventory roll forwards.
* Audit Management:
* Manage the annual financial statement audit and the relationship with external auditors.
* Process Improvement:
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department by identifying opportunities, making recommendations, and implementing solutions.
* Operational Analysis:
* Perform monthly analysis of operations and provide actionable insights for management.
* Collaboration & Consultation:
* Work closely with managers to provide proactive, responsive, and consultative information to help them manage effectively.
* Other Responsibilities:
* Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
* Education & Experience:
* BA/BS in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
* Minimum of seven years' experience, including experience as a Controller.
* Technical Expertise:
* Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software; Business Central experience is a plus.
* Leadership & Communication:
* Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Attention to Detail & Deadlines:
* Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Organizational Skills:
* Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
* Problem-Solving & Urgency:
* Ability to respond with a sense of urgency, practicality, and accountability.
