The Role
I am looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take a central role in the design, development, and leadership of our cloud-based data platform.
This position combines hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, project ownership, and a clear pathway toward a formal management role.
You will act as a technical authority within the team while also helping to shape how the data engineering function grows over time.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-on Data Engineering
*
Lead the design, build, and evolution of scalable data pipelines and platforms using Azure data services
*
Work extensively with Azure Databricks for data processing and analytics
*
Drive architectural decisions, data modelling standards, and engineering best practices
*
Ensure high standards for data quality, reliability, performance, and security
Technical & People Leadership
*
Take ownership of data engineering projects end to end
*
Act as a mentor and technical leader for other data engineers
*
Support planning, estimation, and prioritisation of engineering work
*
Collaborate closely with product, analytics, and business stakeholders
Team Growth & Management Potential
*
Play an active role in recruitment and onboarding of future team members
*
Help define team structure, processes, and ways of working
*
Demonstrate leadership capability with a clear opportunity to grow into a Data Engineering Manager or Team Lead role
What We're Looking For

Strong experience in a Lead or Senior Data Engineer role
*
Hands-on expertise with Azure data services, including Databricks
*
Deep understanding of modern data architectures and cloud-based analytics platforms
*
Proven experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
*
Motivation to take on people leadership and team-building responsibilities
*
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic mindset
*
Fluent English
