My client is currently seeking a Grants Accountant to join their team in Denver, CO.

About the Role
The Grants Accountant performs accounting and financial service functions for programs funded by grants, special revenue, and memberships. Daily tasks involve reviewing/monitoring grants and transactions for compliance with federal funding requirements. Monthly duties include preparing all entries and items noted on the close checklist, including journal entries, reconciliations, and updating spreadsheets. The Grants Accountant will also review bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
What You'll Do
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio, including preparing annual and project budget, forecasting revenue, and estimating any carryover funds from one year to the next.
- Record accounting transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Coordinate the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Review semi-monthly payroll and payroll journal entry.
- Prepare and review journal entries, cash receipts, and bank reconciliations.
- Act as back up for processing Accounts Payable transactions.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review by Accounting Manager in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with federal grant management requirements (OMB Uniform Guidance).
- Assist with development of annual budget.
- Assist with annual audit, preparation of Form 990, and benefit plan return.
- Provide excellent customer service to members and employees.
- Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs. or less.
- Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment.
Our Ideal Candidate
Education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3-5 years' experience as an accountant in a non-profit setting.
- Experience communicating financial data to all levels of organization staff.
- Experience using MemberSuite or similar Customer Relationship Management/Association Management Software preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred.
